For most employees, December means finally catching our breath, planning for next year, and taking some well-deserved PTO. Today, 97 percent of employers in the United States offer Christmas day as a paid holiday and employees request time off twice as often in December than in any other month.
But, for sales teams, particularly those whose organizations run on a regular calendar year, rather than December heralding much-needed time off, instead it means one very important thing: end of the sales year!
Meeting end of year sales goals requires a huge push by everyone, from customer service to IT. With everything going on and with everyone who is not working in sales focused on wrapping up their own work, how do you keep sales teams focused on the prize without stressing them out even more than they already are?
A fun, “countdown to the holidays” clock widget can add some holiday cheer to your Lightning homepage.

If you’re new to Skuid, fire up your Skuid Design Studio and follow along from the beginning of our webinar, “Deck your Lightning Dashboards for the holidays.” Throughout the webinar, you’ll learn how to connect to an external data source or API in Skuid, how to functionally build pages, models, components, and wrappers, and how to customize your holiday countdown widget with colors and fonts to match your brand or desired theme.
If you’re already familiar with Skuid, building a countdown timer widget will feel second-nature, so you may prefer to jump straight to a particular step using the timestamps below.
- In Skuid’s Data Sources tab - create a connection to the Day’s to Christmas API. (starts at 5:40)
- Create a new Skuid Page using this data source for a Model that will return the precise days until Christmas. (starts at 7:35)
- Add Skuid Components to the page displaying the contents of this data model.
- Get creative! Change spacing, fonts, and colors in our Design System Studio. (starts at 11:30)
The end of the year doesn't have to be stressful. It's the most wonderful time of the year for a reason, so a little whimsy goes a long way in contributing to the holiday spirit.
