Skuid Brooklyn release notes

Skuid Brooklyn is the bridge to the future, representing a major step forward for Skuid components, app development, and external data connections. Design pages more intuitively—without code—using new components and new Action Framework branches. Use the App Composer to create apps for desktop, mobile, or both. Finally, access your data wherever it may be with new data source types and streamlined configuration experiences.

Skuid Platform

  • In addition to its feature additions and enhancements, the Brooklyn release ushers in a new age with the beta release of Skuid Platform: the same great Skuid product but managed and hosted by Skuid.
  • Skuid Platform is the same software suite you’re familiar with, containing:
    • App Composer
      • Some components may not yet be available in this beta release.
    • Theme Composer
    • Data source types
  • Connect to your existing data using Skuid data sources.
    • Skuid Platform adheres to enterprise-level security protocols in addition to all data model security measures in place on any data sources you connect to.
    • Use Skuid’s data source connection features, including SAML.
  • Skuid Platform manages the app deployment architecture for you.
    • Create a site for your app or apps.
      • Name the site to reflect your branding.
      • Customize your apps by geographic region.
      • Import any certificates you’ll need to secure your site.
    • Design pages and group them into apps that you deploy instantly.
    • Create URL-friendly links for your apps.
    • Manage user access to your apps.

Major enhancements

  • Employ nuanced logic in your Action Framework sequences using branches. Make buttons, wizards, and table actions react differently to user situations through powerful if/else statements, all without writing a single line of code.
  • Design with mobile in mind using Interactions, a new tab that allows you to specify Action Framework sequences for mouse clicks and touch gestures:
    • Click, Swipe left or right, and Press supported
    • Configurable for multiple Skuid elements
      • Queue component
      • Deck component
      • Image component
      • Sliding panels
      • Skuid page properties
  • Need to make a mobile-friendly sliding menu? Want optional information accessible through a button? Use Skuid’s new Sliding Panel interface through the Action Framework to display data and menus.
  • Design informative and interactive cards for your records using the Deck component. Useful on mobile and desktop.
  • Want buttons outside of headers and page titles? Filters outside of tables? Use the stand-alone Button Set and Filter Set components to create your user experience. Control one or more components with your buttons and filters, while placing them exactly where you want them with all-new layout features.
  • The Table component has several major enhancements, including:
    • Conditional rendering is now available for each column within a table.
    • Skuid admins can now enable Table Settings, allowing users to see the data they need how they want to see it. Each user can show, hide, and reorder individual table columns at runtime.
      • These settings are also saved for each user through the Personalization framework.
  • Keep your toggles, formulas, and other UI-only fields organized with the UI-Only data source—Allow users to create UI-only fields without creating dummy or empty models.
  • Connect to external data easier than ever before:
    • Use SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) to manage single-sign on settings for your site.
    • Create lookups between data sources with enhanced reference fields.
    • Configure new data sources using new user-friendly wizards designed for each data source type’s unique requirements.
    • Use enhanced versions of existing data source types:
      • OData 1-3 is now OData 1-4
      • Support for Sharepoint files
    • Plug and play your data with an array of new pre-configured data source types
      • Microsoft Dynamics
      • Outlook
        • Calendar
        • Tasks
        • Email
      • Google Calendar
      • Google Drive
      • OneDrive
      • SAP
      • Slack
    • Take advantage of unique data source capabilities—without coding a single snippet—using data source actions.
      • Draft, send, and reply to emails in Outlook
      • Create new documents, folders, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, and drawings in Google Drive

Feature enhancements

  • The Skuid Lightning Theme has been updated to match the latest Lightning Design System requirements.
  • Updates to Theme Composer, including new properties and design elements for some components.
  • Configure new mobile-friendly settings in the Navigation component so your navigation menu is easy to use no matter where it is viewed.
    • Configure if and when your navigation layout should change, based on screen size.
    • Position your navigation items in responsive horizon, vertical, and dropdown layouts.
  • No more guessing the exact data object name for your Skuid models! You can now view a drop-down list of data objects without having to enter 3 characters.
  • Hovering over and navigating to search results from the Skuid search bar now populates the search bar itself, giving a clearer indication of what the user has selected.
  • For users working in currency fields, new keyboard shortcuts make it easier to work with currency in the thousands, millions, and billions.
  • Reference filters: Using a filter on a reference field with too many options? Add conditions to limit the number of filter choices.
