However, the company’s job sites weren’t making candidates feel welcome, causing desirable applicants to drop out of the process. With the help of Skuid, Hyatt streamlined its apply flow and created an experience worthy of its reputation.

Challenge

With 750 hotel and resort properties in 55 countries, Hyatt Hotels Corporation is recognized worldwide as a provider of excellent guest service and quality accommodations. Unfortunately, this positive brand reputation was at odds with what many candidates experienced when navigating its careers sites. 

The company had two recruitment websites: one for corporate-owned Hyatt properties, and another for franchises. Given neither had been significantly updated in some time, both had a dated look and feel. The sites were also difficult to navigate, creating friction throughout the apply flow. In order to submit an application, candidates had to create an account, which caused many to simply exit the process.

Recruiting leaders at Hyatt understood these experiences could work against Hyatt’s standing as a world-class guest service brand. The organization wanted candidates applying for jobs to receive the same white-glove treatment as guests at its luxury hotels. So, Hyatt turned to Skuid to improve its career sites and applicant experience.

Solution

Skuid quickly got to work, combining the two separate job sites into a single cohesive experience. The revamped careers site merged Skuid-enhanced Taleo job listings and separate franchise-specific job listings for HospitalityOnline.com under the Hyatt brand in a seamless way for candidates. The Skuid team made this change without disrupting Hyatt’s existing enterprise software as it required no updates to current versions of Taleo products, and all security and data constructs remained in place.

In addition, Skuid updated the branding to better reflect Hyatt’s current visuals, and implemented a responsive design that accommodates job seekers accessing the site from any device. They also added video content and an improved search function, and made the site’s navigation more intuitive. 

“The old career site wasn’t as user-friendly as we liked and its design hadn’t kept pace with changes in our corporate brand,” says Crystal Bell, a senior Human Resource Information Systems Specialist for Hyatt who managed the project. “The redesigned site now matches our brand, has an improved search function, and uses videos and quotes from current Hyatt employees that give candidates a better sense of the benefits of working at the company.” 

Another significant update was removing account creation from the application process. Studies have shown that this step causes 60 percent of candidates to abandon the task. Now, candidates create the account after submitting an application.

With Skuid, Hyatt can also embed the analytics platform of its choice to track metrics on its career site and for each stage of the application process—meaning, it can continuously improve the candidate experience based on real-world data. 

Results

According to Bell, HR executives and recruiting leaders at Hyatt have embraced the new global career site, improved Taleo apply process, and unified search application. They consider the improvements a valuable new asset in the company’s campaign to hire top talent faster.

With the help of Skuid, Hyatt was able to translate its world-class employer brand into a candidate experience that reflects the organization’s values and culture, while positioning the company as an employer of choice.
